BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) – Anthony Ranaudo had 14 strikeouts in nine innings and Austin Nola hit a run-scoring single in the top of the 10th to lift host Louisiana State to a 3-2 victory over Baylor on Saturday night in the NCAA Tournament’s Baton Rouge Regional.

Ranaudo threw 130 pitches, giving up three hits and one earned run, and capped his performance by striking out the side in the ninth to preserve a 2-2 tie. Tigers closer Matty Ott retired three straight in the bottom of the 10th to wrap up the victory, which sent LSU (48-16) to tonight’s championship round.

Jared Mitchell hit a solo home run for LSU in the top of the second. He also walked with one out in the 10th and scored the winning run on Nola’s single off Kendal Volz to beat Baylor (30-25).

The Bears will play Minnesota (39-18) in an elimination game at 1 p.m. today.

AUSTIN REGIONAL

Army eliminates No. 2 seed Texas State, 7-4

AUSTIN – Joey Henshaw drove in three runs and Army rallied to eliminate second-seeded Texas State from the Austin Regional.

Henshaw hit a two-run, two-out single and the Black Knights (35-20) took advantage of two errors by the Bobcats to score five runs, four unearned, in the eighth inning. Closer Kevin McKague worked the ninth inning for his sixth save.

Henshaw also tied an Army record with his 12th home run of the season in the third inning. The Black Knights made three errors.

They advanced to play today against the loser of Saturday’s late extra-inning game second between Boston College and top-seeded host Texas. It was tied 2-2 going into the 24th inning, the longest game in NCAA history.

Paul Goldschmidt had two doubles for Southland Conference champion Texas State (41-17), which scored a run in each of the first, third, sixth and seventh innings.

HOUSTON REGIONAL

Morris goes distance as Kansas State defeats Rice

HOUSTON – A.J. Morris pitched a complete game and Justin Bloxom hit a go-ahead homer in the eighth inning as Kansas State beat top-seeded host Rice 7-6 in the Houston Regional and snapped the Owls’ streak of 13 consecutive regional victories.

Morris (14-1) threw 144 pitches, including 40 during a four-run rally by the Owls (40-16) in the ninth inning that fell short. He gave up 13 hits, six runs, five earned, two walks and struck out two for Kansas State (43-16-1).

Ryan Berry (7-1) allowed 11 hits and four runs, three earned, in eight innings as Rice’s streak, which dated to 2004, ended. The Owls will play an elimination game against Xavier today.

Bloxom hit his third homer of the tournament in the eighth inning to put the Wildcats up 4-3.

Sam Houston State eliminated by Xavier, 9-6

HOUSTON – Jordan Conley had three hits and pitched 2 1/3 innings of hitless relief for the win as Xavier beat Sam Houston State in an elimination game.

Conley (2-1) started at shortstop before coming in as a reliever. Neil Lindgren and Bobby Freking both added homers for Xavier (39-20).

Will Skelton (2-3) took the loss, allowing a run and two hits in 3 2/3 innings for the Bearkats (36-24).

IRVINE REGIONAL

San Diego State eliminates defending champ Fresno St.

IRVINE, Calif. – Brandon Meredith hit two home runs and Tyler Lavigne pitched into the eighth inning as San Diego State eliminated defending College World Series champion Fresno State with a 4-1 victory in the Irvine Regional.

Coach Tony Gwynn’s Aztecs (41-22) will face the loser of the UC Irvine-Virginia matchup in an elimination game today.

Fresno State’s defense of its national title ended in two regional losses as Lavigne limited the Bulldogs (32-30) to five hits and an unearned run in 7 1/3 innings while striking out eight and walking one. Addison Reed got four outs for his 20th save.
