Osben Laparra, Miami police say a bicyclist spotted the remains of 21-year-old Osben Laparra floating in a bag in Biscayne Bay on Wednesday. Divers searched the area for several hours and later found a second bag.
A police spokesman says investigators believe the remains are related to a homicide. Police wouldn’t say what body parts were found, but a medical examiner determined they were from a human.
Osben Laparra is a Guatemalan immigrant who worked in Little Havana as a carpenter, said police Detective Fernando Bosch, who was at the scene in Pompano Beach.
Police said the three bags appeared similar.
Bosch said he didn’t know whether the bag of bloody clothing is related to the Laparra case.
“We’re not sure, but it looks that way,” Bosch said. “We’ll take it to the lab to make sure it is human blood. We’re treating it as if it is directly related to our case.”
